When looking into using particular art/designs there is always the risk of using copy right work. Copyright is the legal concept that work such as art, images, music, etc belongs to the individual who made them. This means other people can’t copy these works and pretend it’s their own. However fair use is the use of copyright material under certain circumstances such as being quoted, criticized, teaching, research and news reporting. Moving around the use of using copyright material as a teacher can be tricky especially when developing my own instructional materials. Not only is it tricky for me, but also for my students as well. I think to avoid these issues for myself, as well as my students, I would try using copy right within the fair use law as close as I can. Another thing to do is using free public domain resources to make my own instructional material.
When implementing technology in classrooms, many see the positive impact they can have on students. However, when looking at the negatives, we can see things such as academic dishonesty and decreased productivity. When students have the whole Internet at their disposal, they can find all sorts of articles to use for their work. Yet with having all these articles, there are students who choose to plagiarize by copying another student’s work, and use it as their own. One way to solve this issue is to thoroughly teach students about plagiarism and its consequences. Another way to prevent it is to show students how to properly cite and quote information to ensure that there is no plagiarism. For the issue of decreased productivity, it can be caused by many things such as burn out, distractions, or just not wanting to do work. Sometimes it’s understandable. There will be days of productivity and sometimes days with less productiveness. A solution to less productivity within the classroom is not to fight it but embrace it. Sometimes giving students a break to recenter their focus can do a lot more than people think. Giving students at least 30 minutes of free time to either relax or do another type of assignment can help reduce stress for them. One student might need a minute to refocus, while another student is thinking too much about a specific assignment, giving them the option to take a break and coming back to the original assignment may recharge the class productivity overall.
A new skill that I have acquired while working on the newsletter, design assignment was how to create a banner on Canva. It did take some searching on Google to figure out, but I am proud to say that I did it. I think one thing I could improve on my newsletter was a better placement for my short paragraphs. I felt like things were a little bit too thrown together. I’m hoping in the future I will have a better layout design for my newsletters. The skills that I have learned from this assignment has allowed me to become more tech savvy, and although it is a process that will take time I am happy to learn it sooner rather than later .
