Hello everyone, my name is Angel. I am a sociology major at Florida State and I am taking EME 2040 to complete my credit hours for my Minor in education. I had transferred into FSU from BC . I came in with excess credits that when I had accidentally picked up two education courses I was eminently enrolled in the education minor program. Although I find the whole situation funny it has opened me up to a pathway I didn’t think I would be interested in. Within my own field of sociology and psychology having an education background furthers my study and has allowed me to learn more about the education field even in sociological perspective.
As we all know technology is becoming more innovated as we move forward in the world but technology has become more and more common within educational settings. Schools have been moving away from the traditional paper and pencil usage within classrooms to a more tech oriented approach. Two programs that I have used within my own educational setting as a student was miro boards and padlet. Both were used to be interactive an engaging when it came to teaching. Padlet was used more as communicational resource that students could add things happening around Tallahassee or within the university and they could share resources such as videos, newsletters and articles that might be helpful to other students.
When it comes to my personal learning networks I have more connections and resources within the sociology department. I had made a personal connection with a professor I had taken her classes and had her for two semesters straight and she was very invested with students going in for their graduate degrees. We had talked about different routes a student with a sociology degree can do and it had opened me up to many more students and opportunities. When it comes to maintaining these networks it’s always good to reach out or attend any events they have planned to keep growing within the network.
Hi Angel! I find your journey interesting as your focus is in sociology and psychology. I like how you are using education as a tool to progress your knowledge in those fields. I also enjoyed learning how your professor was a major part of your PLN as she helped broaden your horizons.
