Being a student you have to have access to many program in order to effectively do work. The most common program is Microsoft word. Although I’ve had my fair share of using Microsoft word I have grown more accustomed to using Google Docs. Microsoft office is a program you have to pay for, and although it’s free for students, google docs has always been free. All you have to do is have a Gmail account and you have access to docs, slides and sheets. Lastly, I have always found google docs to be more simple and straight forward to use than Microsoft word. Yet at the end of the day everyone has their own preference.
ISTE standards are standards that provide a road map to helping students become empowered learners. Having these standards not only help students but also help teachers in enhancing their skills. One standard that I enjoy and that sticks out for me is being a leader. This standard seeks out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success to improve teaching/learning. Teachers are seen as leaders and to enhance your skills on being a leader it just seems like the most effective standard to me.
When thinking of the term “digital native”, it seems like a way to separate people born in different generations. Digital natives are those who are younger and are more in tuned with technology. There are also digital immigrants which is the opposite of digital native, but have been able to change their way of using technology. I myself would be considered a digital native and any teacher I’ve had would be considered a digital immigrant. I know that my navigation with technology differs than any of my teachers because I've seen them struggles while I had known how to operate the programs being used. Yet when I think of becoming a teacher in the future, I know that technology will change so much that I too will struggle. I believe the cycle of being a digital native to a digital immigrant will continue as technology and time change.
Hi Angel! your post was very interesting to read, and you explained the terms clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. I agree that there is a generational difference between digital natives and digital immigrants. I also agree that the ISTE standards help students to become empowered leaners.
